TEDxSydney 2011 Feedback

We asked TEDxSydney 2011 attendees to share their experiences of the day. Some responses set out below. You don't need to have been in the Bay 17 theatre to have experienced TEDxSydney 2011. Literally tens of thousands of you were in the CarriageWorks Forum, or attended a Satellite event, or watched the live video stream on YouTube, or listened to the ABC Radio National broadcast at home. What did you think? Let us know by completing the new field at the top of your TEDxSydney member profile editor HERE.

As host at TEDxSydney@BANC - the satellite event in Blackheath - it was a rare pleasure & privilege to be able to share with my local community the wealth of ideas on the TEDx platform. And the forty-strong band of Blackheath ‘TED-icts’ in will I’m sure grow over coming events. Feedback all positive here, including “...being able to watch it on a big screen in a community setting was excellent”, “...a wonderful way to spend an afternoon in cold, downtown Blackheath” & “...[BANC’s] vision of an engaged and informed Blackheath is fantastic”. Thanx TEDxSydney team & thanx local BANC team [www.banc.org.au].

Excellent day, very provocative and motivating. My highlights were Richard Gill's fantastic talk on music, Ben Walsh's very generous and engaging percussion performance, and the great Paul Kelly to finish the day. Can't wait until next year already.

Huge congratulations to the General Thinking and wider TEDxSydney 2011 team - what a wonderful event, and a step above TEDxSydney 2010 (which was also great). The mix of speakers and entertainment was perfect and it was fantastic to see the foyer buzzing with activity too. Well done - can't wait for the next one!

TEDx Sydney 2011 was an inspiring day. I would like to explore if TEDx can be taken to schools and to children of poorer communities around the world to inspire and promote ideas that are not mainstream.

One of the most compelling take away messages for me was that music and, in general the arts, can be a great vehicle for young children to nurture abstract thought and more intuitive thought processes. More of it is needed in schools.

My experience was purely positive. Nice to meet with like minded people who are keen to see the spread of worthwhile ideas throughout this great world of ours. I would love to have met a few more teachers who are looking to innovate and drive change in the teaching industry. Thanks to the TEDxSydney team for their organisation and commitment to putting on a successful and informative day.

WOW. What an amazing day from kick off to closing bar from Paul Kelly. A Super duper awesome lineup of speakers this year. Very Inspired by Saul Griffith. Amazed by the chilling and educational animations from Drew Barry. Daniel Johns and Josh Wakely were dreamy and beautiful. Too many great moments to share here. Will be unpacking and reliving ideas, moments and thoughts from this years TEDxSydney until 2012!
Amazing.

An extraordinarily, generous day. I was exposed to some subjects Id normally skip over in a newspaper and had a mind shift around some subjects I don't generally engage broadly with. It was a real honour to be part of a day devoted to very diverse ideas with other people to discuss them with. Working in media I am very fortunate to meet a lot of interesting people but the opportunity to engage with the ideas with other people is rare. Thank you!

I love this event. It is the only time I know in a year where intelligent people meet to find the opportunity to collaborate intelligently towards a secure society. It is the one day in a year I can breathe and enjoy the people I will meet. This year, like last year, always brings people into my sphere that have such interesting and similar interests that I learn from. I am researching if a TED business model could work on a meacroeconomic level. I believe the fundamentals of it can, but this will take some thought shifting that I hope to present in 2012. I hope, in some way or another, I will be able to attend every event in Sydney. Thanks for bringing the event here, Remo. You rock!

A phenomenal day! So many wonderful speakers, including my particular favourites Saul Griffiths & Richard Gill. Rives was also fantastic, as were all the musical performers. Every detail of the day was so well-thought out & planned: not just what happened in Bay 17, but also the foyer activities (inc the YouTube flipbooks & the ideas wall etc etc), the beautiful healthy brain food, the gift bags etc. It was fabulous to be around so many amazing people & fellow TED-lovers: the speakers & performers, the foyer attendees, the Bay 17 attendees, the volunteers etc. The organising team clearly spent countless hours planning the day, & it was well worth it. I can't fault a thing. I really hope it continues as a definite annual event.

A thoroughly enjoyable day. The organisation worked like clockwork - was unobtrusive but effctive. All speakers made a valuable and relevent presentation towards ideas worth spreading. Food and entertainment excellent, excellent networking opportunity.
Event Director | TEDxSydney
The absolute pleasure of having a committed, competent, generous team of volunteers to make this event run smoothly. Thanks to all my fellow organisers, volunteers, partners and professionals who were part of it. Thanks to our engaged and generous audience. And, of course, thanks to our wonderful presenters and performers for giving us so much to enjoy and think about.

Simon Stone - what an abstract way to give a talk on contemporary theatre! flippin' phenomenal. Saul Griffith - clearly a brilliant man, excited to share his many ideas without bragging or condescending. Really just stoked to talk and the audience was excited to listen.
